Highline High School’s 4H and FIRST® Robotics (FRC) Team 3574, the High Tekerz, aim to uplift our community by turning dreams into action. The High Tekerz promote STEAM [Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math] within our school and community and, for the extent and professionalism of this outreach, were recognized with the FIRST® Engineering Inspiration Award at our first 2017 district-level competition in Oregon, at Wilsonville High School, on March 9-11, 2017. This award “celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.” The team played nearly back to back matches all day on Friday and resolved a number of challenges with the robot in between matches. Despite some hurdles the robot design was proven and the team excelled at other aspects of the competition demonstrating a culture of Safety, Gracious Professionalism© and Coopertition©. This year’s game challenge is FIRST Steamworks, a steampunk themed “airship” race with exciting three-on-three alliance action, where robots even climb ropes. The Tekerz next competition will be at Auburn High School April 1-2, 2017. Other Highline district teams competing at Auburn include Mt Rainier HS team FRC4461-Ramen, Evergreen HS team FRC2942-Panda ER. Get your steampunk gear on and your cheer on and support your local robotics teams.
