High Tekerz Robotics began in the fall of 2010, with 11 student members, and by the end of the season we made a team decision to open our team up to all high school students in our district to allow for everyone in our community to have the oppertunity to participate in FIRST.
We have a diverse student team composed of students from Somalia, Mexico, India, Guatemala and the USA. Students ages range from 14-19 and student participants include Highline High School students, Evergreen TEC students and Highline Community College running start students. The team began with a 3:1 ratio of male to female students, but by the end of the 2011 Cascade regional the team consisted of 16 students with a equal ratio of male to female students.
High Tekerz is currently being led by a partnership of students and mentors/ volunteers that consist of a teacher, parents and professionals from the business community.
As of the 2011 season we are mentoring a FIRST Lego League Team and two Jr. FIRST Lego League Teams. We are also participating in 2 regional competitions in Washington that include the Seattle Regional and the Spoakane Regional.
The 2010 academic year marked the first year for the Highline High Tekerz robotics team (FIRST #3574). Through the tireless efforts of everyone involved in making team 3574 a success, the teams efforts have paid dividends in the form of the accolades and recognitions listed below:
